An understanding of how changes in technology impact on the way humans communicate, and the ethical issues that surround these changes

Throughout the past three decades technology has experienced advancements that has impact how we as individuals live our everyday lives and communicate with society. These changes involve the ability to have internet and ways to communicate being at the palm of your hands. When you think back to 11 years ago, although it may not be that long ago for many of us it was the time in which the very first iPhone was created. With the development of the iPhone and any forms of digital technologies throughout to years there are associated ethical issues that need to be addressed and considered, including; cyberbullying, privacy, sedentary behaviours, declining social skills etc.

In today’s society we can communicate through a instant text message, see where your best friend is on your snap maps and facetime your aunty from the other side of the world. The rise in communication through technology has even initiated a language in which individuals talk through abbreviations, such as “lol” or “brb”, thus causing individuals minimalizing their use of a wide vocabulary as “technology is often seen as the culprit behind a decline in face-to-face talking” (WPS Office Blog, 2018).

With the continuing rise in social media and the exposer to our personal lives, how do we as individuals know where to draw the line between what is safe and what is a life changing technology advancement?
